On clown doctor rounds this week . . .
Still a lot of contact restrictions and airborne precautions because of flu and respiratory conditions, so did a lot of clowning from the doorway. What I do has to be more visual and project to reach and engage each room's 'audience' -- patient, visitors, and maybe attending staff.
Knock. Dr. Fowlbreath peeks in, first the red nose, head, neck, and then full rubber chicken body. Looks around as an advance scout. Followed by streams of bubbles, then giggles of curiosity and wonder. Dr. Bear always makes a good impression.
Bubbles provided cover and distraction for an IV check in one room, to much thanks from the nurses. In another, a fitting send-off for someone being discharged.
After a rousing rendition of 'The Going Home Song,' I heard "reminds me of Blippi." Who? Guess I'm not watching enough daytime children's television. (Came home and did some research, decided that was a good thing.)
On the way out, a family was checking in for labs/imaging, but the boy was engulfed in his large earphones and preoccupied with his tablet. He was so into it, I got curious, attached my stethoscope with hearing aid, and gave a listen. He looked at me, smiled, then went back to the tablet. Mom and Dad shook their heads and laughed.
Used a new (to me), smaller doctor's bag this week. It's a tight squeeze for all my props, but a sweet ride for Dr. Fowlbreath.
